How many pills do you palm in a morning? Or perhaps you munch kimchi or neck kombucha? We’re a nation obsessed with wellness — the market-research firm Mintel reports that 62% of UK women take some form of supplement, and they now outsell skin serums on Net-a-porter. “People are so much more aware,” says Dr Nigma Talib, a naturopathic doctor who counts Sienna Miller and Jamie Dornan as clients. “They’re no longer willing to accept mediocre wellness, and in some cases the answers just don’t exist in conventional medicine.” The water is murky, though. Research by ConsumerLab in 2017 found a worrying 46% of multivitamins don’t do what they claim, and 80% of chewable supplements failed its tests completely.
