Throughout the summer, residents can take advantage of healthy options by picking up fresh vegetables and produce, which are grown locally and available at a market, community garden or nearby establishment.
Here are some places that residents can visit:

Eating healthy is important for people of all ages, and sometimes items might be too expensive at a nearby grocery store. A farmers market coupon distribution will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, July 12, at the Amherst Center for Senior Services, at 370 John James Audubon Parkway.
The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program provides low-income seniors with coupons that can be exchanged for eligible foods — such as fruits, vegetables, honey and fresh-cut herbs — at farmers’ markets, roadside stands and community-supported agriculture programs. One $20 booklet per person will be issued. Coupons will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, and individuals must be present to receive coupons.
All coupon recipients, 60 years of age and older, must meet the eligibility requirements as established by New York State, including one-person monthly household income is at or less than $1,926; two-person household income is at or less than $2,607; three-person household income is at or less than $3,289 and currently receiving or eligible to receive SSI, public assistance or Section 8 housing subsidy.
