KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) — Students at Grandview Elementary School in Kanawha County hosted a garden-to-table community event Friday.

The event was a part of the national “Better World Project.” This year was the 25th year for the national event.
Students in EL Education programs across the country submitted varies projects.
Grandview Elementary’s EL program was one out of just 18 programs nationwide picked as a winner.
Students showcased their winning idea to family, friends and the community.
They set up different tables with healthy food choices, demonstrating how easy it is to make healthy food options and do it on a budget.
Teacher Kayla Kinney said, “They’re learning responsibility, compassion for others and taking care of the environment … also teamwork and perseverance as well.”
Most of the food was grown at the school in a greenhouse that students tended to daily.
Food items from the event were donated to the Switzer Center on Charleston’s West Side.
