TEXARKANA, Ar – Harvest Regional Food Bank and the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance partnered for their third annual ‘Cooking Matters’ event Thursday.
Shoppers at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Texarkana, Arkansas learned how to shop healthy on a budget. They got tips on watching sodium content in canned vegetables and sugar content in items like yogurt.
Harvest Regional Food Bank Executive Director Camille Wrinkle said, “For instance, in the fresh produce and vegetables, you can learn when it makes sense to buy fresh and when it makes sense to buy frozen, looking at prices, the nutrient content and just all kind of helpful tips.”
At the end of the tour, participants were challenged to plan a health meal for their family for under ten dollars, based on what they learned.
