For many running is more than a way to stay in shape, it’s a spiritual experience — a time to reflect and recharge. With that in mind, First United Methodist Church is offering Run/Walk for God, a 12-week Bible study kicking off with an information and registration session at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 190 E. Franklin Blvd., Gastonia.
This program is for all fitness levels, even for those who don’t have an interest in running but want to learn more about their health.
During the information session, participants will have the opportunity to have their weight, body mass index, cholesterol and blood pressure checked and those screenings will be offered at the conclusion of the program in April.
The group will meet on Tuesdays from Jan. 22 through April 9.
Transformation Tuesdays will include 40 minutes of prayer, devotion and walking/running education and 35 minutes of physical activities — different levels will be offered based on abilities.
Participants will celebrate completing the program by taking part in the Community Foundation 5K Run and 1 mile fun walk on Saturday, April 13.
The program will include opportunities to learn about exercise classes in the community, tour grocery stores, free heart-healthy cooking classes, information on proper footwear and injury prevention.
