THE Ministry of Health (MoH) is chairing and hosting the 28th Meeting of the Asean Traditional Medicines and Health Supplements Product Working Group (TMHS PWG) and its related meetings this year.
The meetings are held from October 23-27, at The Rizqun International Hotel, according to a MoH press release.
The 28th Meeting of the Asean TMHS PWG and its related meetings discussed the progress on the development of the ‘Asean Agreement on Regulatory Framework for Traditional Medicines’, the ‘Asean Agreement on Regulatory Framework for Health Supplements’ and the technical requirements and updates on training programmes related to Traditional Medicines and Health Supplements following technical discussions from the Task Force on Asean Regulatory Framework (TFRF) for TMHS products, the Task Force on Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Guidelines for TMHS Products and the Asean TMHS Scientific Committee (ATSC).
This year, the meetings were attended by 100 delegates and observers from the National Regulatory Authorities of Asean member countries, representatives from the Asean Secretariat, the Asean Alliance of Health Supplements Associations (AAHSA), and the Asean Alliance of Traditional Medicine Industries (AATMI).
Representatives from the traditional medicines and health supplements industries, government agencies from local and other Asean member countries were also in attendance as observers.
The TMHS PWG Meeting and its related meetings are usually held back-to-back twice a year, during which Asean member countries discuss and learn about the management and development of the health supplement and traditional medicine industry in the region while seeking coordination to fully tap the sector’s potential.
The TMHS PWG was established in 2004 as one of the sectoral bodies mandated to develop a harmonisation scheme on the regulatory and technical requirements for placement of TMHS products traded in the Asean region.
An opening ceremony was held on Tuesday, attended by Dr Hajah Lailawati binti Haji Jumat, Head of Quality and Accreditation, MoH, as the guest of honour.
