PANAMA CITY, Fla. – As you're beginning to plan your holiday meals, the Department of Health invites you to a special night focused on healthy holiday options.
Diabetes services at Bay's Department of Health is hosting the annual healthy meal makeover on December 12 at 5 p.m.
People will get healthy tips from dietitians, take home healthy holiday recipes, and of course, try all of the food.
One diabetes specialist said after the stress of Hurricane Michael, people need to pay special attention to what they're eating.
"It is affecting your blood sugar. The stress of not having adequate housing, food, not having a job, those are all things that can impact your blood sugar and cause it to go to high. Despite the fact that you might be taking medication, and that then leads to complications and the disease," she said.
The event is free but you do need to register. Call (850) 252-9656 and see their website: http://bay.floridahealth.gov/programs-and-services/wellness-programs/diabetes-services/index.html
