Flower Child opens in Uptown Dallas on Monday, Nov. 11 with the same happy, healthy vibe that has made its other three Dallas-Fort Worth restaurants popular.
But here, company execs have added a full bar and a deep cocktail selection. The Uptown Dallas restaurant is the first Flower Child to serve more than just beer and wine.
“Our motto is healthy food, happy world,” says beverage director Mat Snapp. “When we decided to bring a bar into it, we couldn’t turn our back on the health part of it.”
Snapp’s cocktail menu includes health-focused ingredients like turmeric, collagen, activated charcoal and more. The Beauty and the Beach cocktail is a white rum and pineapple drink that comes with a dash of “beauty blend” powder made with goji berry, collagen, acerola cherry and pomegranate.
There’s also the Pretty Verdita, a green drink made with cilantro, mint, pineapple, lemon and jalapeño — “but with vodka,” Snapp says.
The restaurant will serve an almost identical menu to the existing Flower Childs in Dallas-Fort Worth. The company prides itself on its options for people with allergies or special diets, especially those who are vegan, gluten-free, keto or the like. Director of Restaurant Operations Monica Copeland says she was a customer before she started working there. Her son suffers from gluten, dairy and soy allergies.
“They can accommodate for almost everything,” she says. Eating at Flower Child was a significant change for her son, who had ordinarily only been able to eat one or two items on any restaurant menu.
The restaurant is best known for its colorful bowls of grains and vegetables. The Brussels sprouts, served with golden miso, are one of the most popular greens. The menu also includes Indian spiced cauliflower, gluten-free mac and cheese, red chile glazed sweet potato and more.
Customers who visit the new Flower Child can either order at the counter — as is typical at the other Flower Child restaurants — or sit down at the lounge and order cocktails and food from a server.
Beyond the inventive cocktail menu, customers can also order from a 7-option non-alcoholic drink menu designed for the sober-curious. In 2019, we’ve seen more restaurants in Dallas than ever before debut mocktail menus.
The drinks menu has a glossary at the bottom that explains terms like chaga (a “superfood mushroom + honey for a better-for-you sweetener”) and activated charcoal (“the mother of all detox”).
Director of Marketing Rebecca Dye explains that the glossary was added so that none of their customers felt out of the loop. “We’re not precious,” she says. “We know everyone is on their own journey, and wherever you are, we want to be with you.”
