STUDENTS from Tunas Jaya PGGMB School, Jerudong International School and St George’s School yesterday gained invaluable lesson on dental health through fun and games activities during an event organised by the Department of Dental Services in conjunction with the World Oral Health Day 2018.
The World Oral Health Day falls on March 20 every year to commemorate the benefits of healthy mouth. This important day offers the dental and oral health community a platform to promote awareness on oral health issues while coming up with actions to help reduce oral health burden in the community.
The theme for this year’s World Oral Health Day ‘Say Ahh! Think Mouth, Think Health’ aims to create awareness on the importance of visiting a dental clinic for a mouth examination and the importance of oral healthcare as a part of caring for overall physical wellbeing.
The Department of Dental Services under the Ministry of Health has organised a three-day programme from March 13-15 at its premises for children of 10 private schools. The schools include Tunas Jaya PGGMB School, Jerudong International School, St George’s school, Learning Tree School, Freda School, Nusa Laila Puteri School, Sinaran Mas School, Tinker Bell Learning school, Fairview School and Sunshine School.
An estimated 600 children are participating. The activities include Dental Cinema, Interactive Games, Tooth brushing Exercise, Balanced Diet and Dentists Role Play.
It is hoped the programme will fulfil the three objectives set by the Department of Dental Services, which are to commemo-rate World Oral Health Day 2018, cultivate good oral hygiene habits among children and educate children to be responsible in maintaining their oral health.
